Kaiser Franz Josephs Höhe

His Majesty Emperor Franz Joseph hiked in 1856 to that place, which is called "Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe" ever since. Once arrived, you stand at an altitude of 2,369 m directly in front of Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner (3,798 m), overlooking the longest glacier in the Eastern Alps, the Pasterze.
The Visitor Center at the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe, for example, offers fascinating insights into the natural world of the National Park.

Glacier Trail

The Glacier Cableway starts directly at the famous Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, taking you down to the valley station, where you embark on a 30-minute walk to the glacier’s edge. The Glacier Trail is a spectacular, moderately challenging hiking route leading from the Glocknerhaus (situated directly on the Grossglockner High-Alpine Road) to the Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. The path takes you through the stunning, high-alpine landscape of the National Park, all the way to the so-called ‘Hufeisenbruch’ — an enormous glacial fracture from which the fledgling waters of the Moell river are released. Duration: around 4 hours; altitude difference: approx. 400m. While the route is easy to manage in terms of technique, hikers must be surefooted. Suitable for children from around 10 and up; best time: July to October

Raggaschlucht Gorge

Also in summe the cable cars are working. From the hotel you can either walk or drive to the Fallbichl and from there you can use the cable car to the Schareck. After you’ve stepped out of the gondola, it’s only a short walk to the summit of the Schareck mountain. It seems incredible to be able to enjoy such breathtaking views with so little physical exertion. At an altitude of 2600m, you are greeted by a stunning panorama of the Grossglockner and up to 40 of its fellow 3000-metre peaks. A hike along the Geotrail Tauernfenster, which also starts out at the cableway summit station, is a little more demanding: leading up to the Hochtor, it is an alpine hiking trail requiring a good level of surefootedness.
